As you go through life striving to reach certain goals, you'll undoubtedly meet some obstacles and pitfalls along the way.  It's good to have some helpful success secrets in the back of your mind at all times to encourage yourself and others through life's journey.  We've put together a list of what are probably the top ten success secrets ever written.  Put these to memory, meditate on them, and watch your dreams transform into reality.

1.  Love What You Do; Do What You Love

All striving is vain unless you enjoy the journey.  The ultimate goal shouldn't be to earn a certain dollar amount or to purchase a certain big-ticket item.  It should be to love the journey as you strive to reach goals.  If you're starting a business, joining an organization or just trying to raise a family, consider the activities and people you love to be around the most.  What is your passion?  If you can combine everyday living and business with your passion, you've found a winning combination!

2.  Dream and Write Goals

You should have dreams about the future.  The best way to make dreams come true is to write them in the form of goals.  Goals give you a tangible target to strive for instead of just dreams that can merely disappear.  You might be dreaming of a new home for your family, owning a large franchise some day, or even being able to contribute "X" dollar amount to your favorite charity or church each month.  Whatever your dreams, get them on paper and start determining what it will take to reach the goals.

3.  Task Force

Become your own "task force" by writing a list of tasks to be completed each morning before starting your day.  Writing a to-do list, whether for personal or business purposes, will help you think through what you need to do for the day.

4.  Stay Focused

It's easy to get side-tracked from your goals with the cares of daily living.  After all, there are bills to pay, home chores to take care of, children to raise, etc.  These can become distractions from your goals only if you allow them.  Instead, allow time for every aspect of your life.  Don't push so hard for business goals that you neglect personal and family responsibilities.  Instead, allot certain time for each and keep personal and business separate from one another as much as possible.

5.  Make a Commitment

Once you commit to someone or something, it's easier to do the tasks ahead.  If you're starting a business, for instance, write a commitment statement to yourself and your family to invest so much time per week in the business.  Determine to put 100 percent effort into your business during these times.  This will not only help you achieve more during the week, but will also set an example for your employees.

6.  Don't Expect It Overnight

A huge mistake new business owners make is they expect success to be handed over on a silver platter.  It doesn't work that way.  Most businesses take years of blood, sweat and tears to succeed.  Patience is a virtue you must develop to be in business for yourself or to realize any goals in life.

7.  Be Prepared for the Worst

What if your business doesn't do as well as you'd hoped?  Are you prepared to take a loss if need be?  You should be prepared mentally, physically and financially just in case it takes longer to get things going than planned.  And don't forget to plan for future financial needs for the business even if it does take off like a rocket.  The initial investment is just a starting point...there will always be more expenses to come!

8.  Never Stop Learning

Whether it's reading books (or e-books online), attending seminars, watching training DVDs, or listening to CDs on your way to work, you should always be apt to learn new ideas and techniques.  Just because you've been in business for ten or more years, this doesn't mean you've arrived and know it all.  There's always something new to be learned and ways to improve whatever methods you are currently using.

9.  Always Help Others

Never get too big to help someone else.  Helping others will play a major factor in your own joy and success as you strive to reach your goals.  You'll find that being able to give back is the best part of being successful.  Help someone financially, help a young business owner get started, or help an elderly person get his/her groceries once a week!  You'll never regret giving time and/or money to others.

10.  Relax...and Enjoy Life!

The final success tip is to relax and take time off to enjoy life.  Take a one- or two-week vacation at least a couple of times a year.  Take frequent family days or weekends for camping, picnics, ball games, a movie night, or any fun activities.  Doing this will help relieve stress and bring your family closer together.
